The General Council of Notaries (CGN) has taken a significant step towards the modernization and digitalization of notarial services with the implementation of the Electronic Protocol through the enactment of Law 11/2023.

For the first time in history, this new legislation allows citizens and businesses to obtain electronic copies of their notarial documents. This innovation not only saves substantial time and paper but also facilitates the exchange and transmission of these copies to requesting entities, making the process more efficient and quicker.

It is estimated that the requests for electronic copies could exceed 13 million annually, and the introduction of notarial videoconferencing will play a crucial role in streamlining corporate procedures and resolving urgent situations.

Through videoconferences, notaries will be able to expedite urgent corporate procedures and address situations requiring the involvement of various parties, such as capital increases, appointments of administrators, changes in company headquarters, general meeting minutes, statutory modifications and liquidations, as well as commercial policies, notarial powers, payment letters, guarantee cancellations, and signature authentication testimonies, among others.

Furthermore, this law will facilitate information exchange by speeding up various processes, such as choosing the notary of one's preference, locating the notary holding the originals of their deeds, requesting copies, holding secure videoconferences, scheduling appointments online, and more.

The city of A Coruña has witnessed a historic event, being the site of the first legal act authorized by a notary via the Internet in Spain, marking a significant advancement in the adoption of digital services in the notarial field.

These services will be available through the Notarial Electronic Headquarters, established in 2004 with high-security measures. The Citizen's Notarial Portal, which already has over 300,000 registered individuals and entities, will serve as the gateway for citizens and businesses looking to take advantage of these innovations.

However, it is important to emphasize that José Ángel Martínez Sanchiz, president of the CGN, explained that these digital services are complementary, and most of the nearly 3,000 notary offices across the country will continue to provide services in person. He also highlighted that "The provision of a quality, agile, and close service, with the highest guarantees of security and legal protection, remains the main objective of notaries."

In summary, this innovative and efficient approach represents a significant step towards adapting notarial services to the current needs of society, where speed and convenience are paramount. At Notin, we are committed to doing everything possible to support you in this new stage, offering our continuous support and ensuring that your transition to the digital world is as smooth and efficient as possible.

Let's continue moving forward together towards a more innovative and connected notarial future!
